Our Story

Smiths Pharmacy has been a trusted part of the St. Helena community for over 150 years. Founded in 1874 by Walter Smith in downtown St. Helena, the pharmacy was later passed down to his son-in-law, Walter Metzner, who continued as pharmacist and proprietor for many years.

In 1994, Jeff and Debbie Hansen became the fifth owners and lovingly stewarded Smiths Pharmacy through decades of growth, including the expansion into Calistoga with Silverado Pharmacy in 2006.

In 2025, the Hansens passed the torch to current owner and pharmacist Sahini Chidipotu, who is committed to preserving the pharmacy’s local charm, personal service, and deep community roots. Alongside longtime team members Patti Guijosa and Elvia Perez, Sahini looks forward to continuing the Smiths legacy for years to come.
